Hi

Im looking to invest in a router so i can use the laptop around the house and maybe get the desktop wireless as well.
Have no idea what i should be looking for make wise etc, i have been told that theres no point in looking at a 54 as it would be too slow running.
my internet connection is 2.3mbps.

Hi

Would a 54mbps not be too slow as when i went looking in shops they was all saying i neaded a 108 or 125mbps, sorry not too much up on routers thats why neading advice before i purchase.

well im pretty sure you dont have anywhere near a 54mps connection anyway. most internet connections range from 1mb upto 8mgs. i think they are just trying to sell you something you dont really need

Thats what i thought but they where adamant that 54mbps would slow my internet down to a stand still.
Im only on 2.3mbps internet connection at moment and would be using mainly on laptop that is wireless and if it came with a usb adapter then i could use the desktop wireless too so both could be used at same time if neaded.

It helps to read the thread. His internet is 2.3Mbps.

If all you're doing is internet, then you don't need anything more than 54Mbps.

If it has a WAN Ethernet or USB port on the back, it probably don't have a modem built in. But if a regular telephone connection or coaxial connection on the back, it probably has a modem built in.
