right audio channel not working

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with Sound Max HD audio, and the right audio channel seems to have gone out suddenly. I don't think it's my external speakers because I plugged in my headphones with the same problem. Does this sound like a hardware or software problem?

go to your audio options and make sure its not all mixed over to one side

if that isnt the case reinstall the driver

if that doesnt work then i out of ideas, and its a hardware problem
