Rewire headphone socket?

Our recently bought Dell Dimension 3000 -
In order to play games (onboard sound inadequate) and use midi-port joystick we have fitted a PCI sound card. All works fine but I would like to be able to use the headphone socket at the front of the case.
Is it possible to re-solder the wires to do that? As a reasonably intelligent but relative newcomer to PC components that is. Any suggested online tutorials maybe?
Thanks in anticipation.

I'm not sure, but won't it work without resoldering it? Doesn't the sound come through the motherboad to those ports anyway? I don't know but I thought that was the case.

I Assume u have tried using the headphones socket and it isnt working. from what i understand or ur question above, the headphones jack should stick work as viper said, but it may just be muted or turned down. open up the volume controls on the comp and see if its turned down or muted.

Yes, that's what I thought...the sound comes from the primary audio i/o device, through the mobo and to the front ports, regarless of what sound card you have. Thanks, johnny

Just re-wire the easy way... get a 3.5mm male end and a female end. Plug on end into the back, run it through the case and replace that piece into the front of the case.. So remove the old one from the front and hijack the signal from the new card!
