This is a very short review for a very small but handy product.

Introduction

Kingston is happy to introduce their newest and fastest Datatraveler to the mass.
The Kingston Datatraveler Ultimate g3 is the successor of the g2 edition that launched some years ago and the g3 is set to beat his predecessor in every way possible.
When you look at the past years, USB write and read speeds have quickly increased.
This is the point where it almost reaches the regular HDD speed.
On the package, you can clearly read that Kingston offers 5 years of warranty which is pretty much and certainly something that some people may interest.

Design

Kingston succeeded to give the USB stick a stylish and at the same time solid design.
The USB has also a little ring on the back that can be used to put it on your keyring. The design of the stick just scream quality and we're positively surprised by this part of the stick.
The only little negative thing we feel about the product is the sliding mechanism that could get damaged after using it for a long period of time. The connector of the stick is also exposed and that's where a cap could have been better.
A cap however, is easy to lose. The plastic that you can see when you slide the metal over the connector looks a little cheap though. There's a little blue led when you stick it into the USB port from your pc.
After all, we aren't dissappointed by this part.

Performance

We used the ATTO disk benchmark and CrystalDiskMark which are both accurate read and write benchmarks.
What we're expecting to see is a 150MB/s seq read speed and a 70MB/s seq write speed, let's see how this numbers live up to their expectations!

CRYSTAL.png

The CrystalDiskMark benchmark does show a better write speed, but the read speed is a little less than expected on this one.

ATTO.png

The ATTO benchmark shows almost exact the same read speed which is showing 114,7 MB/s. The writing speed is a little less and gives us a around 91 MB/s, it's still 21MB/s more than expected.

Kingston didn't provide the exact numbers like expected, but these numbers still measure top of the line performance and we can clearly say that this stick can be counted to the higher end devices.

Conclusion

The Kingston Datatraveler Ultimate G3 gives us awesome read and write performance packed in a pretty stylish design. Some results were lower than expected, some were better, but after all the performance of this stick can be named as performance of the highest class. The stick has some little nice features like the 5 year warranty, the ring to connect it to your ringchain and the beautiful blue led on top of the stick.*All of this together for a reasonable price.

Underneath this, you'll find our opinion in little numbers which may be more informative for some people.

Performance = 9/10

Design = 9/10

Value = 9/10

Total Score = 9/10

We decided to give the Kingston Datatraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 a gold award!

Nice review but the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 64GB which I have is WAY faster. Over the twice the speed!

And if you look at the cost on Amazon, you can see that this Kingston is £19.68.

And the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 32GB is £23.48, so it's only a few quid more.

So, I think the SanDisk represents better value for money, but still this looks like a nice USB drive and this is a good review Rob. :good:

Really impressive results from that Sandisk,I like how they have stepped up on the build quality also..not cheap thin plastic connector like i experienced on one of my other Sandisk.

I paid about £50 in October for my SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 64GB. Whilst that is a lot to spend on a USB drive, I think it was a worthwhile investment - it's so quick! It is one of the fastest USB 3.0 flash drives on the planet I think.

Here is a 14GB file being transferred from my Vertex 4 SSD to the SanDisk:

Yes, the Kingston looks like it's metal and not plastic unlike the SanDisk, but the SanDisk is twice as quick for a little bit extra. The build quality of the Extreme USB 3.0 does feel a little plasticy but it does have a proper metal USB connector unlike some of their other drives and the sliding mechanism feels relatively robust too.

Not to say that all Kingstons are like this, but in March last year I bought a Kingston DT Rubber USB 3.0 32GB and it only last for about half a year until it died - hence why I replaced it with the SanDisk. I wanted to buy a SanDisk in the first place but there were problems with sellers on Amazon selling counterfeit drives.

When I wrote this review 1 or 2 months ago, I wasn't able to find many much faster USB 3.0s though. I also have to mention that this is not kingston's fastest USB. The DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 and HyperPredator are both faster and feater respectively a read/write from 225/135 and 240/160.
Even with these topline USBs from Kingston, it seems like SanDisk still takes the crown with its very fast writing speed and a little faster reading speed.
Maybe I'll be asking Sandisk and Kingston for some kind of comparison review.

Note: the Predator is only available in 512GB and 1TB. 1TB is pretty impressive though.

Yeah the HyperX is probably the drive to compare the Extreme USB 3.0 to. I was considering buying one of those when I was looking at 64GB USB 3.0 drives but again the SanDisk came out cheaper and faster (and the HyperX is a fat drive whereas this Extreme USB 3.0 is quite slim).

The Extreme USB 3.0 has been out for a little while now. It was even on the market when I bought the DT Rubber 3.0 in March 2013 I think.

Considering the 32GB version of the Extreme USB 3.0 is less than £5 more expensive than this DT Ultimate 3.0 and is twice the speed, I think it's worth the small premium.
