Resume permissions

So my wife tried to open one of her old resume and when it opens in MS Word it says
"Word cannot open the document: User does not have access privileges"

The weird thing is it will open on my mother in laws PC, any help to fix this would be appreciated.
 
Probably was created on a different pc and just needs to take ownership of the file. If you need to know how to take ownership, just google "how to take ownership of files in Windows xp, vista, 7. putting whatever OS she is using.
 
There is a couple of things you can do. First would be, if its that important to have this file, go to your mother in-law and just copy and paste the words to another word file and save that one and use that. Second is to use a "Takeown" program like John said.
