am i able to transfer files between pc's using this? if so how long would it take to transfer 4.7 gbs across?

You can do some file transfers via remote desktop or a VPN connection, but it would be insanely slow, espcially a file that is gigs in size. You can only download as fast and the host can upload. So, unless you are on a killer connection (like OC) then its pointless. You are better off just transfering it via external HD or DVD disc.
 
For example I only get about 60k upload cap on my cable connection. So that means real time transfers over the internet are probably going to end up at like 15k per a second after it goes through all the traffic to get from its source to its destination.
