Remote computer to computer connecting

I'm trying to figure the best way to connect to computers remotely across the internet.

My father (in his mid 60s) just got his first computer. My kids who live out of state have just got their own computers. Since I work with computers my phone has been ringing non-stop with questions on how to do this that and the other thing.

Without being able to see what they are talking about it can become difficult. My life would be increasingly easier if I could find a good reliable method of connecting to see their desktops.

I've tried PC Anywhere and even the RDP in Windows to no avail.

So I bring my question here. I know there is someone out there who can help me. Either with a program, a better knowledge of PC Anywhere or Windows RDP.

Well then either go for the program specified above or do this (for Windows OS)

Go To
Start -> Help & Support
Then type in the box "Remote Assistant" they can then request remote assistance with you (If they MSN or something)
