recurring broadband router issue

Hi.
At the beginning of the summer I bought a netgear router for my apartment. It worked fine for about a month, but then I started experiencing problems. I would lose my connection through the router. I could unplug the power source on the router, then plug it back in, and I would be connected for about 5 minutes, and then would lose the connection again. When running the modem directly into my computer, it worked fine, but I was unable to run it through the router. I took the router back and purchased a linksys router. It worked fine for about a month, and then the same thing happened. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Dsl/cable?

Is the router on a hard flat surface, are all the vents open, and not blocked? It sounds like an overheat. Try letting a fan blow on it, and DONT set it flat on any carpet.

also ensure that if your isp sets their ip's dynamically that you have it set for this becuase some of them will revert to old settins for some reasons and also some isp's will do frequent tests and if you are not paying extra for a router or a hub they will tend to kick you off

This can be fixed, but I need to know if he has cable. If he doesnt i dont want to confuse him.
