Recording gameplay without stupid, hardware-eating programs

I'm gonna go ahead and say that I'm not entirely sure where I should post this.

I have been lately trying to start recording my multiplayer gameplay, maybe add some commentary and post videos on youtube. Obviously, getting a decent, or even crappy quality is VERY hard on PC when it comes to games like Modern Warfare 2.

My question is: Is it possible to connect PC to TV with HDMi-cable, then connect a PVR or capture card of some sort in to TV, and record the gameplay from TV like that? I mean I will play on PC, but show the gameplay on both computer-screen and TV, but record the gameplay off of TV.

If not, what are my other possibilities to achieve HD quality without having to slow my gameplay to ~30 FPS?
Thank you.

Oh yeah, I do realise that I'm probably a little bit retarded to some of you by asking these questions, but hey, I'm learning ;)

Recording HD is VERY demanding. I'm not sure what kind of TV you have but I haven't heard of any that has coaxial output. I'm also pretty sure that there's no capture card that can capture HDMI that's within consumer budgets.

And @raptorjesus, he'll need to buy fraps if he wants to capture at resolutions above w/e the free version allows you to do. It will, however, drastically decrease his FPS and such as your CPU has to do on the fly compression.

Yeah, no coaxial output there.

How about connecting DVD to record HDMi? Is that possible in any way?
And since, as stated above, achieving HD quality off of PC is almost impossible, I'd just like to know the way to achieve the best quality available.

Anyhoo, the DVD-HDMi question, what d'you guys think?

Wow this is really getting off-computer-topick...
