is there a way I can record what im doing on my computer, create an AVI and send it to someone? I want to be able to show someone how to use software by capturing what im doing on the screen. I found something called desktop screen record 5, has anyone tried that?
thx larkin, a wee bit pricey but thanks, ill try it out. I see the grep reference in your signature, use grep to make csvs, u wouldnt happen to use ubuntu or vmware player would ya?
I used to have a free one a while back that was lightweight but free. It didn't have many options, but would record screen and sound and was called desktop activity recorder.
I went on a search for it a while back and couldn't find it, but I'm on snaggit now which I think is great. A little confusing at first and the interface isn't the best, but once you get the hang of it it is pretty good

Pricey, sure, but $99 gets you full recording, and on the fly editing for both audio and video and it can output to any format: MP4, QuickTime, AVI, and so forth.
I use it and love it.
I use Ubuntu on my HTPC at home, but I am *gasp* a Mac user also.
