Recommend Me Some New Speakers!

Title says it all. I'll mostly be using them for music and some gaming. Would like to keep it under $100 bucks but the cheaper the better. Also I want these things to shake the walls so they gotta be loud! Oh and I like pretty heavy bass too.

You aren't going to get wall-shaking sound under $100 and even if you do, it won't be 5.1 surround sound. If you don't care about surround sound, your best bet would be to save up and get some Z-2300s, they run around $150-$170.

Thanks for the reply. What is the difference between 2.1 and 5.1? I don't even know what those numbers mean. Also it doesn't have to be perfect sound quality. But I'm in college and if my roommates and I are having a party I want the system to bump.

i know its a bit over budget, but something like these add a subwoofer later.that will give you the kinda sound you are looking for.

2.1 - 2 speakers and a subwoofer

5.1 - 5 speakers and a subwoofer

the ".1" represents the subwoofer because it produces only about 10% (.1) of the sound spectrum.

So 5.1 is surround sound since you have Front, Front Left, Front Right, and Rear L/R + the subwoofer.

Again, I recommend saving up a bit more and getting the Z-2300.

$130

The system is 200 watts, which is a great deal for the price. You won't find much more than 200 watts without getting into $200 systems. The subwoofer is a decent size so you will get a good bit of bump as well.

Thanks for explaining that. So just for clarification I currently have a old (I dunno maybe 5 years??) Altec Lansing 221 setup, which I would consider decent. How much of a performance increase could I expect if I went with the Logitech setup?

this, and this will give better sound with the bass you want.over the plastic speakers that has been recommended.its also only 50 over your budget.

Don't you think those satellites would be a bit underpowered? 8 watts each would barely get loud enough to be heard over that big Yamaha sub at high volumes.

The Z2300 has 2 40watt satellites and a 120 watt subwoofer. The satellites would be easily heard over the sub because of the extra output, even if the Edifier speakers had excellent efficiency, 8 watts is not enough.

As for the upgrade form the AL 221s, it would be worth it. I've actually owned the 5.1 counterpart to those Altec Lansings (same speakers and Sub except with the 3 extra speakers) and they don't sound nearly as good as the Z2300. My friend has the Z2300 system and I like it a lot. The sound quality from the satellites isn't too far apart from my Z5500 speakers.

bass takes way more power to produce.im running a set of klipsch bookshelf speakers on a t-amp.that basically means the speaks are getting 10 watts.im using 2 powered subwoofers that barely keep up.so i would say maybe, maybe not.my subs are way beyond that yamaha sub.im running a boston acoustics xb6 200w continuous 600peak.my klipsch subwoofer has about half that output.

your welcome.now you just need to take what we have thrown out there, and make the best decision for yourself.:good:

Obviously bass takes more power but that doesn't mean satellite speakers need to be neglected. I'm willing to bet that the 40 watt satellites on the Z2300 system would outperform those Edifiers at higher volumes. I am assuming if you use that yamaha with those speakers, you will have a large hole in your mid-range. It takes next to no power to create sound in the high range since the cone barely needs to move but in the mid-range there is still some decent motion going on that needs more than 8 watts to produce clearly.

straight up real speakers are gonna sound better than plastic ones.1 word "resonance"plastic is gonna have alot more of it than mdf.
