Hi

Just wondering if youare able to re-apply thermal paste over the previous?

If not..how do you clean the older Thermal paste off to re-apply?

Dan

Ahh yes TIM well to scrape the thermal paste off use a small piece of card or something but be very careful do not use any liquid! If you buy a new CPU cooler they normally have a layer of thermal paste on it already. But when i bought a new cpu cooler it had a layer of TIM on it and i still had old paste on my cpu i thought this would be too much and cause it to overheat but it worked like a dream. But yeah just like a piece of card to get rid of it and google TIM or look in PC world. It normally comes in a syringe in a kit with like a mobo heatsink or something
hope this helped

No, you should not apply thermal paste over whats already on there. Take a soft cloth and use alcohol to remove the old paste.

As long as the old thermal paste is still "squishy" or "moist" and covers atleast 1/2 of the face of the processor then its probably fine to continue using or fine to apply new paste on top of it. Dont go overboard with applying new paste because when you press the heatsink down the paste will spread out and it can fall off the sides of the processor and get into the area were the gold pins are. If the old paste has been on there for a while its probably best just to wipe it off and apply new paste.

Never reuse old paste...

paste is so cheap and so is rubbing alcohol..

wipe off all old paste with alcohol on a cloth...and put a new dab of fresh paste on..

When I removed my Q9450 the other day, I applied a bit of rubbing alcohol to a coffee filter. This was the first time I used a coffee filter, and I found it much better than a paper towel, which was my usual method. Never tried a "cloth."

91% rubbing alcohol works great also!

Remember, you do not need much thermal paste at all. A dot is all you need.
