EDIT: All done :)

Ok.

After getting Windows 7, as I am going to install 64bit over 32bit XP I need to clean the harddrive. Fair enough - that's fine.

BUT to do this you need to use a FLOPPY DISK.

I might be being stupid - but how many computers come with bloody floppy disc drives now? Piss take or what :\

Why the hell would you need a floppy disk? The capacity of those ancient things wouldn't even hold half a 'background picture'.

You must be confused on something?

Restart the computer with the floppy in the A: drive. At the A: prompt, type Format: C. Answer "yes" to the warning; you want to wipe out all the data.

EDIT: There is another way to do it by just right clicking on the C drive and clicking 'Format' but EVEN when I close every program I know of (including the oens in the bottom right hand corner of the taskbar) it says 'Please close programs. some programs are not closed'

WHY DOESN'T IT SAY "Would you like US to close the programs" This is starting to take the piss :l

You can't format the HDD you are on. Why don't you simply make another partition and or format the drive upon installation?

Am I speaking to myself guys? :P

I said that with 32bit xp you CANNOT put in a 64bit cd to install.

It does NOT work :P

It says wrong disc - which is no use when you want to install 64bit :\

umm, no ur not talking to urself. heres what you do.

1. put cd in drive.

2. restart pc.

3. boot from cd drive instead of hard drive.(might have to go to bios but usually it says press any button to boot from cd drive)

4. when installing windows do a CLEAN or FRESH INSTALL.

Tried this, it loaded and then just went to the windows 7 theme but did nothing else :(

If you have your BIOS set to CD drive before the hard drive, then restart the system WITH the Win 7 disc in.

It will come up with win7. Go through and you will be asked where to install it. At that point, on the same page you are given the option to format a hard drive. Format the one with XP on. Install, you are done

All done in about half an hour!

Thanks very much guys, really helpful :)

Turns out it wasn't loading because when booting with the disc it takes like 10 minutes to load lool

:)
