Rant About StartUp

Why is it everything I install decide that it is so important to me that it needs to start up everytime I start my pc anything from skype to overclocking utilites?
I know there are just advertising there product but seriously come on few programs seem to offer the option to not start on windows.

Anyone who is does not know how to use msconfig or a simalar program is just screwed within a few months of downloading the usual essentials and other crap you'll find interesting to use once your computer ends up pointlessly bogged down, it really grinds my gears :).

anyone else have this feeling?

I just msconfig the crap out of it...

yeah i now what your saying, msconfig is not that hard to start but it's just drives me nuts to have to do it with the majority of the programs I install.
It's just completely unnecessary.

I usually just use the settings built into the programs to nullify StartUp running. Either that or just delete them from the StartUp folder.

Ditto Del_Monico. Most apps have a startup setting option. Sometimes you have to go digging among pages of settings which is not great for the less-informed. The other side of the coin is that some people would not have a clue where to find their apps and start them.

true, most people that ask me to clean their computers is because the have two or three IM clients, printer utilities, torrent clients and other craps start at boot.

msconfig and works well. Letting people know is ok and eliminate start ups.
Its called cleaning house and normal. its house keeping and normal.

I just use CCleaner and the startup function and disable/delete what I don't want starting up. Easiest way.

ccleaner doesnt have all the services and programs in it, unless i have an old version, iy just has the startup folder programs and not the services tab like msconfig, alot of stuff ends up in there as well, best to use msconfig, its quicker.

Wasted space

My theory is that software companies see unused RAM as a waste of space, so as the amount of RAM offered with computers increases every hour (or so it seems) the software companies feel obliged to fill that vacant space with frilly bits  :P

I use IObit Advanced System Care - Startup Manager to remove unnecessary startups. It has a great feature where, if you are not sure of an item, you can select it and then click to check it on the internet where it will be either Needed, Not Needed or Your Choice

For the disabling of Services I use the BlackViper recommendations.

As much as I despise pre-installed software on my computers, if we didn't have random companies dumping large amounts of un-needed software onto our hard drives, then we'd be spending a lot more on the computers we love so much.

One reason why I build my own, though it's unfortunately slightly harder to build laptops, than desktops.

This is very true and I know a few people who have bought the full version of pre-installed security software when the trial expired simply because it worked, so why change.

I know this is not what you mean but I could not resist :D
