ram problem

ok this all started happening when one of my ram sticks fell out. my computer sometimes does not want to turn on the lights light up and then turn off. then sometimes it does work. but if it works usually its only for a minute or two. i ran diagnostics and first three times it turned off during the test. once i managed to finish the test and all systems passed. but problem was when i ran the test computer would only read half of the memory no matter which stick i took out and even when they were both on there only read 2gb when there was four. but for now it reads 4gb ram. its a studio xps 1640 running windows 7. i am thinking the ram needs to be replaced. its not the battery its full and its not the charger either. when it turns off it turns off suddenly. once in a while i can get it to work fine with no problems without computer turning off. please tell me what you guys think

Check your temperatures. A shut off with no warning is a common symptom of overheating. If you are getting Blue Screens, it'd help if you provided the STOP error code.

ok so i figured you were right so replaced the fan since it was not running and that did nothing with new fan still wont run. what eles is it does it need new thermal paste?:
