Ram causing MB and CPU to fry?

Hello All,

This will be a first for me.... I am a NOOB when it comes to forums, so please bear with me...

I have the following build:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X61055T
MB - Gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h
Cooling - Artic Cooler freezer pro 7 ver 2
Video - PNY GTX260 768MB 448bit ddr3
HDD - 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm (Primary)
HDD - 3x - 1TB WD ears 7200 rpm (Storage/ Apps)
Power - OCZ ModX Stream Pro - 600W

Ram - 4X - pc3 10666 OCZ platinum [email protected] 2GB (8GB total)

Here is where I need help if possible....

I replaced above stated ram with 4X - pc3 10666 G.Skill RipJaws 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5v 4GB (16GB total)

After making sure I did not have static build up, opened case, removed old ram, installed new ram, made sure seated correctly...now NOTHING.... will not post, beep, or anything.... I took out new ram reset BIOS (pulled battery for 2 hours)and reinstalled 1 stick of original OCZ ram in slot closest to processor..., NOTHING... disconnected everything (HDD, VIdeo, DVD burner) and still no beep codes.... I have a pc speaker that works hooked up, still nothing. I even took out last stick and restarted...NOTHING. Swapped PSU with a 650W and same thing.

Now after my rant... my ?? could this new ram have jacked my MB or CPU, or both. nothing was OC'd and this is a new build as of 12/10

any help would be helpful... I have built 100+ boxes before , upgraded and TS them for 20+ years and never ran into this before... I am reaching out to the community for help.

Thanks for all assistance in this matter.

Try reseating the CPU, sounds crazy but it has worked for me in the past. Use one stick of RAM for testing.

Once you have it working again, set your RAM settings (voltage, speed, maybe some loose timings for 16GB) and up your NB volts a little. Save and reboot, then hold your power button down, install the new RAM, and boot up. Good luck.

Sorry if I did not include in "rant", I have reseated CPU.... and am only using one of the original sticks of OCZ ram in the slot closest to the CPU.... and it still will not POST.

any other ideas??

Tried CMOS clear? Take out the battery and power cord, and hold the power button for 5 seconds or so. Replace cord and battery and then boot up.

If you've already done that it sounds like something has died. Though, thinking back to when I had issues, getting angry doesn't help and makes you more likely to put something in the wrong way (I did this with RAM sticks once... they still worked afterwards! but the system didn't boot at first) or break something. :o So I suggest taking it slow and checking everything.

Also check your power connectors, you might have bumped one getting the RAM in and out.

Linkin,

Yes I done all you suggested, I have now even pulled the MB out of case and set on a solid Non-conducting surface to check, tried different ram configurations.... IE 1 in slot 1, 1 in slot 1 and 2, 1 in slot 3, 1 in slot 3 and 4... different sticks of ORG ram... still nothing. I am thinking either the board or CPU kicked the bucket and will try returning them under warranty on Monday morning.

Thanks for your help, If anyone has any other options... I am open.

One of your slots might be dead. Try a single stick in slot 1, 2, 3 and then 4, and see if it boots.
