Hi I have a Linksys WRT54G router and I just have a queston. When I go to my settings there is something called "Wireless SSID Broadcast". What exactly is this? Right now it is enabled but I don't know what it is or what it does. Can someone tell me?

Thanks

Basically it does just what it says. It broadcasts the SSID to other computers within range. If you disable this, you'll have to enter the SSID to connect to the router.

when ur in a connected area and when people look for their wireless connection, the SIDD is a name that will pop up meaning thats ur connection.

Little tidbit on the SSID (Service Set Identifier):

Back in the original draft of 802.11, the SSID was created so that it would be a security measure against wireless networks from clashing with each other. Each packet sent over a wireless network contains in its header a 32 character ID in plain-text, the SSID, which acts as a password to differentiate it from other wireless network traffic. Every host, including access points, must have the same SSID to communicate with each other.

Believe it...or not :D.
