Hey All;

Question:

Do you ever think that the Desktop computer has run it's course and will fade away, like many of the so called "Experts" say it will.

In my own opinion, I think the Desktop will be around a lot longer than they think.

:)

Yeah it'll be around for a bit longer because people who require the power of a desktop won't be able to get it in a laptop or a tablet for a long while yet I reckon!

Based on the things that I still use on a regular basis, I am inclined to say no. As long as there are people that have machines, and people that want to use them, they will still be around. Just like the CB radio, 8 track tapes, Vinyl records, carburetors, and hundreds of other obsolete, but useful devices (lawn darts too!).

I think the day of the desktop is over for the general public, as most home users would prefer a laptop they can carry around that has everything already built in than to have to buy a desktop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and get everything connected, as well as not being able to move around the house with it. In fact, many people have replaced their desktop/laptop with tablets and their smartphones.

Desktops won't completely go away though, most businesses will continue to have desktop workstations, people who use computers for photography, video, and other multimedia work require the options and capabilities of high-end desktops.

I recently posted an article that Intel was going to start discontinuing making desktops that, thankfully, was a false alarm. I can see both desktops and laptops coexisting peacefully with laptops taking precedence.

Depends on the application that you're talking about. In the work space, desktops and laptops will probably never go away. In a home setting, even then I believe they will not go away. Tablet PCs are more toys/accessories/compliment type tools...

I think for everyday users there will be a shift towards laptops and tablets but for the higher end demands and enthusiasts like the forum members, there will always be a market for a good old self built computer. A laptop simply cannot compare in performance to that of a desktop of the same price and higher performance will ALWAYS be needed for complex calculations and rendering that isn't even considered possible right now.

Desktop are on the decline. Being took over by phone/pods/tablets/laps. But desktops will still be around for awhile. Lesser so with OEMs on %. But there will still be a demand for really cheap ones and higher end rigs with OEMs. Would say in the years to come custom builders and do it yourself builders will be still around and most desktops will probably come from there. Even though OEMs are a big % of parts manufactures still make a lot of money in the retail market with builders.

Lo penso anch'io che dureranno a lungo.
Vorrei chiedere a Stella se mi può aiutare a capire perché: ho resettato il mio pc desktop , si avvia ma non si accende al monitor. Cosa può essere? Grazie
