question regarding windows 7 trial

I am using a windows 7 disc my friend gave me, and it is build 7100. I noticed that my copy doesnt have a watermark on the bottom right of the screen, and also that it says it is activated in windows activation. 7100 is the one that windows distributed freely if i remember correctly, but it seems strange to me that it says it is activated. is this normal?

Yes its normal, even though its free it still requires activation by product key. Which seems odd in retrospect..

I got the same thing from my school though.

so come may 2010 the OS will lock up, correct?

Thought it was in August.. I know it locks up sometime next year, not sure when though apparently.

Edit: Found it on their website: "Remember expiration dates: Please plan ahead for when the RC expires. You'll get two weeks' notice, and then beginning on March 1, 2010, your PC will start shutting down every two hours. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. To avoid interruption, you'll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS with a valid version of Windows, and reinstall all your programs and data before the software expires."

So, March 1st 2010 it expires.
