Hi all!

I have a question: My old printer/scanner recently gave out, and my daughter gave me her extra HP Envy 5540 Printer/Scanner. I have an HP 24" All-In-One Desktop computer and I am running Windows 11 with a Google Chrome browser.

My question is: How do I get a shortcut icon for this printer/scanner?

Hi johnb35!

So good to hear from you again! Sorry, I don't know for sure. She hooked it up. My daughter just brought it over since it was sitting in her closet not being used.

When I turned on my PC this morning there was no shortcut on my screen for this printer, and nothing about it in the index list.

For one, you really don't need a shortcut to it for it to work correctly. If you want all the default icons and software that came with the printer then you'll need to download this software here.

I can't promise that it will work as it doesn't show windows 11 compatibility as that driver software only goes up to windows 10. If it works, you'll get all your shortcuts.

She most likely allowed windows to install a basic driver for it, thats why there are no shortcuts. If you go into programs and features in control panel and you don't see an entry for HP envy 5540 series then that would be why.

Otherwise you would probably want to get a printer designed for windows 11. Nowadays the darn inkjet ink costs more than the actual printers do.

You can also try going to the microsoft store and install the HP Smart app and see if that can actually install it.
