Question On Silver Vs. Gold On Cable Plating

Hi all,

I was just wondering something. I'm always told that gold is the better conductor, especially so when it comes to audio signals. I have a keyboard that had a gold plated audio cable, and a gold plated audio jack, so that I can plug the audio into the keyboard instead of the computer for pure convenience. I was wondering though, will this have any effect whatsoever, considering that the gold plated cable from the keyboard is plugged into the silver plated jack on the laptop itself? Thanks for squelching my curiosity!

It'll probably connect as if it were a silver plated cable. I don't believe there's any noticible difference but durability is something that silver and gold battle for.

If you're consistently plugging in, and unplugging things, the gold ports will last longer.

What interfaces will you be using?

For a digital signal it makes no difference in audio quality.

it will be all right. they both conduct different but high end for conduction. its used mostly for high voltage like in industrial and environmental. 24,000 volts, 6900 etc. your good.
they will both pretty much eliminate voltage drop. wish all mine was silver and gold plated.
