question about surround sound and optical cables...

Ok I have a samsung home theater system that I use as computer speakers, It has a optical input. My computer has an optical out. Would I get true surround sound from games if I hooked it up to my computer with an optical cable instead of rca's?
 
Yup. Optical is just a digital signal; I record 36 channels down a similar cable from time to time, so 6 shouldn't be a problem. Easy enough to check anyway, just run a 3D audio demo from your computer.

The DACs in your samsung system will probably be better than the ones in your sound card as well, so the quality will increase (although it's unlikely you'll ever notice!)
