Question about some speakers

Hey guys, Im new here in this is my first post but Ive been on many other forums before so I know you all will be a big help to me. Well I dont know a whole lot about computers but lately I have really gotten into them. I have a question on a speaker system that I just bought but havnt recieved yet. Im wondering whether is will work with my system without a soundcard(for now anyways). Heres the speakers-CLICK

Right now the sound device in my system is just basic, its nothing special. But I see that speaker set has 3 different plugs going to the computer and I only see 2 on the back of my comp...not counting the mic lol. So if you guys know if it will work without plugging all 3 cables in that would be great. Or if there is anything else I can do. Also HERE is the sound card I eventually plan on getting.

Any feedback will be very much appreciated...thanks in advance.

Well, if you get that soundcard then your speakers will be fine and they will be in true 5.1 sorround sound.

No they will be in 7.1 setup, both his speakers and sound card are 7.1. But for now using them in surround sound will depend on your mobo that you have, some mobos now support up to 7.1 while others don't, you will be able to use your speakers right now no matter what, just probably not to their full extent.

Ya, your right. I guess I really didn't look good enough at them. My bad.

Well it looks like I will need that card for it to work. I got it today, set it up and the only thing I can get working is the 2 front and the sub, right now running through aux. I tried switching some stuff around on the back and since theres only 3 plugs on the comp, one being mic, another output, and im not sure what the other is. But it looks like Im gonna need that card for all of them to even play. Lemme know what u guys think and if there maybe is anything else I can do.

Thanks for the help

Sounds like your mobo only supports up to 2.1 sounds, so if you want all the speakers to work you are gonna need a sound card that supports 7.1 sound

Alright thanks...then that card I was looking at should work fine.

Ok one more final question lol. Since the sound card I was gonna get went up $30 to $110 this weekend I was considering something a little more expensive but would be much nicer in the long run. CLICK

Now my questions on that are...that X-Fi I/O Drive installs where a normal CD-ROM drive would install, correct? I really like the idea of that setup, especially with the remote control. Now my other question is, do you think I am better off goin with this card or the original one I was looking at(THIS)?

I am an inspiring artist looking to hopefully use my computer as a recording studio and this would be a major step towards that, from what I can tell. Any help or advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks again

well if the platinum version price is fine with you I would say go for it. If I am not mistaken though I believe the cards are identical, or at least very close to it, all the platinum version has is the front console which yes fits in a 5.25" bay (normal cd-rom size), and if you do a lot of sound stuff could be nice since you have the easy accessibilty of all the options in front so, it really depends on what your wallet feels like.

Yeah Im alright with it...since the other one went up anyways. Ill just have to get a little lower end vid card...or wait for a good deal on one. I dont think they are the same, some people were talking about the sound is a little better and there are more connectors on the platinum but who knows lol. I just really like the idea of that front bay thing.

Oh and do you know where that ribbon attaches to from the bay? Does it go back to the soundcard or to the motherboard?
