Quantum computers

I was just wondering what yall thoughts were about Quantum computers. When do yall think we'll see the first Quantum computers?

If, as Moore's Law states, the number of transistors on a microprocessor continues to double every 18 months, the year 2020 or 2030 will find the circuits on a microprocessor measured on an atomic scale. And the logical next step will be to create quantum computers, yeah?

It's already capping out-- the current die sizes are as small as they can go without incurring quantum effects. Same reason why clock speeds have stalled.

I think it will be some time before we see practical quantum computing devices, though, and even then they may be relegated to niche applications.

Photonic computing devices can be built using current technologies and I expect those will begin to take over within the next twenty years.

That would be my guess as well, I don't expect quantum processors to be overly useful to the average user.
