Program exit

After all these years I haveto confess I do not know the difference between the two methods of closing a program as posed in this question.
Well, nobody is perfect.

Question ?

When shutting down full screen programs like Firefox, IE, OE and so on, I simply click the "X" at the top right hand corner of the screen. The other way is to click the EXIT on the program drop-down tab.

What is the difference ?
I am well aware that computers need a proper exit and do not like being crashed, but is this relevant in the case described ? Particularly with the auxiliary closure of included sub-programs - AV, AM, FW etc.

There is no difference between the 2. However, there is one more way to actually close a window. Hold down the ALT key on the keyboard while pressing the F4 key.

Thanks for that John. I like the ALT+F4.

Reason I asked is that some years ago I had a minor problem, involving Firefox and perhaps another program. I cannot remember what it was about now, but the advise given by I think Mozilla was to shut down using the tab EXIT and not the "X".

The problem was cured and I have not bothered since. Always use the "X".
