Pentium D 2.8
Intel D945PSN board.
Asus VR Guard heatsink-fan.
eVGA 6800 GS.
New build, just added in the new Antec hsf because the stock intel was crap and wouldn't seat properly. Had overheat problems. I used Antec Forumal 5 silver thermal compound on the new sink after wiping off the cheap square they had. (Not Arctic Silver 5, but does it make THAT much of a difference?)
I'm still idling at about 60 c. Temp doesn't exceed 64 or so though while playing games. The fan isn't running that high either.
I know that temp is still too high though. It should be idling aroudn 40 something right?. Is my problem just a seating problem for the sink, or is it my intel control of the fan that is keeping it this high? Is there something I can do to lower the maximum threshold?
