Hi there,

Could somebody help me with the following problem: I am a user of cable internet which is destrebuted to 4 users via a router (SMC). I replaced my desk top with a lap top but I cannot connect to the internet with the laptop. I am using a USB LAn (Topcom USB LAN 101) in order to connect the laptop to the internet cable. So far, I have tried the following steps for fixing the connection but without success:

1. I used the WinSockFix programme and rebooted the laptop.

2. I unplagged the modem from the el. system for several min in order to clean its memory, because I thought that it may be full and thus the new PC cannot be registered or recognized.

Non of these unfortunatelly worked and I will be very greatful if somebody can provide me with a working solution.

Thanks a lot,

Mila

Have you installed the drivers that came on the floppy disk? If so check device manager see if it is listed as working ok there. Otherwise do you get any error messages?

Yes I did install the drivers and in the Device manager they are working properly. However, When I go to Settings>Local area connnection> Sharing and want to enable the internet connection sharing I get the following massage:

"Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. The LAN connection selected as the private network is either not present, or is disconnected from the network. Please ensure that the LAN adapter is connected before enabling Internet Connection sharing".
