problem with router

We bought a new router+modem built in and we are having serious problems getting it to recognise the internet.
We have had tech support on 2 times and on both occasions they carnt get it to work and blame the laptop.
Ive checked what i think and all seems to be working wireless side on laptop.

Any advice please.

Got it all sorted now and both machines now running wirless, just 1 question though when both machines are shut down should the symbol with the world stay lit as mine does

Router is a belkin with modem built in
 
i would imagine the world symbol is the Internet LED indicator on the router. Even though your computers may be off, the router is still in theory connected to the internet, so i wouldn't worry about this flashing as its quite normal. when all my computers are off, my router does it aswell.

Yes it is the world symbol for the internet connection that stays lit when both computers are off, just wanted a piece of mind that it wasnt nothing that i neaded to alter
