Problem with my computer?

I have a friend who has been staying over for a few nights who is staying in the room with this computer. She denies doing anything to it, but she obviously did as it has completely changed...

This is what it normally looks like:

(Don't mind the picture of the half naked boy. :P)
And this is what it looks like now...:

That bad colour quality isn't my camera, that's how the it looks.
I plugged in my monitor again on both ends (into the computer and the back of it) and it didn't change anything. I have NO idea what could be wrong... so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, but I should've said this in my post... heh. That picture I had set for a while on the background (the old desktop is an older picture), and that picture (the scuba diving one) for a long time was normal with normal settings and things like the other one.

Is it possible that something in my computer could have just gotten shot, or the monitor or something...? It is a fairly old computer - but I just find it odd that it was working fine the night before she got here, then it messes up when she tries to go on it.

I have a feeling either the video drivers are corrupt or have been uninstalled. Please go into device and tell me what is listed under display adapters.

I have another thing that just came up.. I left it for a bit and now it says: "Out of Frequency Range" and then shows red green and blue bars, then "Attention Out Of Range H:00.0KHz V26.7Hz"... I'm not sure if this is about the monitor about what? But like I said, I did try plugging it in again...

Under display adapters it says: NVIDIA G Force 4 MX 420 (or something along the lines of that)

Okay, I tried but for some reason whenever I opened IE it says it encounters an error... I'm wondering if I just have a virus.

Do you think reformatting would work?
(Thanks so much for your quick replies by the way!)

I know there's other issues than the video, but did you try to increase the resolution?

Right Click on your Desktop, Properties, Settings.

bod is right you should put the resolution at 1024 786 if you have a normal 17 inch monitor or just change it till it looks right for the background right click the desk top and go to properties and then desktop tab and just pic any picture.

Yes I did try the resolution, it doesn't change.. it looks like it is going to change and then it just goes right back to being the same.

My dad just decided to tell me today that he installed a Windows Update and it did that... sigh. I'm just going to reformat it and hope it fixes it. :)

Thanks a lot everyone!
