problem with LAN-connection

following problem:

i recently bought a laptop with windows xp home edition. when i connected it to my network at first, the internet worked fine. however - somehow it hasn't been working for around a week now.

the strange thing is that if i connect the same cable to another pc, using the same ip-address, gateway, etc. the internet works. also, when i connect the cable to the laptop, it claims that the LAN-connection is running with 10 mbps. in truth, i can't go online and none of the hundreds of packets sent are ever received.

the network card is a realtek 8110. please help! thanks.

does it say limited or no connectivity? what ip address are you using? are you running dhcp? or do you set ip, dns servers, subnet and gateway yourself? also, please describe your network setup.

1) Try uninstalling and reinstalling the network card drivers.

2) Also, assuming you have everything addressed correctly, it could simply be a bad card.

3) If you're running DHCP, you could also try the following:

Click Start ~> RUN

type the following into the box, then click OK. Don't include the quotes:

"netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt"

That's XP's version of a winsock fix for the OS. If you're not running DHCP, then you will need to reassign the network settings to your card, as that command will wipe them out.
