Hello people,
I have just set up a netgear router (DG834G) on a friends computer and shared the internet connection with out any problems, I then attempted to network his two computers which are botth running windows XP home, one computer is wired via ethernet and the other a laptop is wirelessly connected to the network.
My problem: I ran the the 'home network set up wizard' and created a 'workgroup', i ran this on both computers using the same workgroup name and then I selected the 'c' drive on both computers and authorised sharing and then selected all the sub folders I would like to share over the network, then I rebooted the computers a couple of times each and then opened 'network connections' and waited for the computers to appear, the problem is they didnt, not even after a good 15 minutes or so, then I did a search for computers on the network and the laptop shows up on the desktop and vice versa, I then click on the 'laptop' icon from the desktop and try to access the files remotely over the wireless connection, I then get an error message something along the lines of ' you dont have access to the files on this server, contact you system administrator (little me) for further assistantce' I tried rebooted a couple more times and waiting, then checking over my settings making sure everything was authorised to share and I kept getting this error message, does anyone have any ideas where I can start looking for answers?
BTW I have tried disabling the firewalls although I dont think they are the cause of the problem as I have done this before on other computers with no real problems and without having to chnage the settings on the firewall.
I think the problem may be with the firewall built in to the netgear router but when checking the settings nothing stood out as being the cause.
Any help would be great, shoot at will.
Thanks
Hakka
