Printer Problem

Can anyone help, for some reason only known to itself my printer has suddenly stopped printing on both sides of a sheet.

ie if I have a word document open and click File, Print, a printer window will open.

If I then change the quantities from 1 to 2 and scroll down the window and make sure Print on both sides flip pages on long edge is selected, leaving the orientation as Portrait and then click on Print.

Bingo, it prints 2 copies but on two separate sheets.

Does anyone have any ideas on what’s going on?

Then printer is a HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 operating on Windows 11 Pro

Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2021

Thanks to anyone who help

How does other things print like emails? Cause if they print fine then its probably a setting you changed in your word document the way the page is setup. Could be your margins or whatever.

Hi John

First may I say thank you for taking the time to reply, following what you have said about printing an email, I have just tried it and you are absolutely bang on, it printed on both sides so it’s looking very much as you said, something to do with word documents.

Any ideas on what I should be looking for, I’m a silver surfer and not really very good with computers when things go wrong, so would very much appreciate it if you could talk me though things to try.

What I’ve done so far regarding printing a word document is to open up one I have saved some time ago and tried to get it to print 2 copies, one on each side of the sheet and I end up with it printing on separate sheets, being an existing document the margins were set to the default setting of 2.54cm all round.

Thanks again

Clive

Hi John
I’ve gone into Settings, Printer & Scanners, then selected HP B079A (HP Officejet pro 8730).

As you can see from my second picture, Print on both sides is showing Yes, flip over, so I’m assuming it’s got absolutely nothing to do with the printer setup??
I have MS Word set as 2.54cm margins as default.

We had an employee where Excel would just not print. Outlook and others was fine. We ended up having to reinstall Office.

Was Envelopes selected in that second image?

I would suggest to make sure, in Word - File > Print, click on Printer Properties.

and make sure that also shows 2-sided.

Hi Guys

No, the problem has not gone away, I've had some other pressing problems hence the delay in responding.

It may have looked from one of the pics that I'd selected envelopes, which is not the case so I've included some fresh ones and as far as what Couriant suggested re installing Office yep I have now done that and still the problem persists.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can try next?

out of interest, what is highlighted in the Ports tab? Is it using WSD?

also, are you able to connect to the printer with an USB cable or are you too far?
