hi, i need to get 'old' (already-printed) photos onto my computer then on to a DVD where i can have a slidewhow with music in the background and all that good stuff.

What things do i need? Is it possible? Do i need a scanner? - basically anything you can tell me i would appreciate - thanks

Um...the scanner question should be rather obvious...

As for the software, I dont know what all's out there. Windows Movie Maker would probably work, but I hate it and havn't used it since the days of Windows ME :P

Yes, it can be done, and isn't that difficult. I did it myself using Windows Movie Maker a few years back. Scanning all the pictures took a while, but aside from that it's fairly straightforward.

I'd strongly recommend using Microsoft Photo Story, which is free for download, assuming you have Windows XP. It is extremely effective for this task.

I would invest in a good scanner, otherwise the pictures wont look very good. Then you can take the photo's, add them into the free Windows Movie Maker, and burn it to a DVD. Or you can use Nero.

You need a DVD Burner to do this though.

You should be able to get a scanner for about $100 or less that should do the job just fine. And either Movie Maker or Photo Story should do the trick just fine. I know Movie Maker will allow you to add music to it, and adjust the length of individual slides using a graphical interface of the storyboard of the movie. I've used it quite a few times, and have to say it's a pretty good program. A lot of the features and functions seem to be taken from iMovie, and it is a fairly easy to use application.

Seems kinda silly to go buy a scanner for one thing...maybe you should ask a few friends if they have one that you could use...(not take to your house i mean use at their house:P ) or maybe find a library that has one.

From your friends house/library you could burn a cd with the pictures on it and take it home, email them to yourself..or if technology permits, put it on a camera memory card.;)
