power supply failures?

Hello, After my old power supply stopped working, I decided to upgrade most of the components. I have a new MB, memory, HD, CPU, and power supply. I keep having issues though.
First new power supply: The computer would never start. hitting the power button did nothing to start the computer, just like what happened with the old power supply. I even tried using a different button hooked up to the MB to power on the computer.
Second new power supply: Installed it and it worked great. Two weeks later and once again hitting the power button does nothing.

Is there something else wrong here? It seems very strange that three power supplies have died. What else could the issue be???

Yes, everything is plugged in and the switch on the back of the power supply is turned on.

What brand and model of power supplies are you using? Can you list your sytem specs?

motherboard
cpu
video card
memory
power supply

Do you have the proper amount of standoffs installed and in the correct places? If not, you will ground out the motherboard and cause other issues.

MB: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
CPU: AMD FX-8120 8-Core Black Edition Processor Socket AM3+ - FD8120FRGUBOX
Video: EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 2048 MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 2DVI/Mini-HDMI SLI Ready Graphics Card, 02G-P3-1559-KR
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10)
Power Supply: Thermaltake Power Supply 240-Pin 600 Power Supply W0388RU

Further update: I just tested my power supply using the paper clip method and it worked. I then plugged it back into my MB but the power button still did not work. I swapped the power and reset button connections on the MB to test, but still nothing. I swapped them back. Nothing. I looked at all of the connections and everything seemed fine except my one of my USB connections that connects the MB to a USB port on the case was flipped upside down. I corrected it and the power turned on.

Could an upside down USB connection really do that? If so, why was the computer working before?

Yeah, its very possible. All the connections require to be perfect or shorting will occur. Example... if an electronic device wasn't wired correctly, it wouldn't work would it? If you continue to have issues, I would contact someone to verify that you wired up the motherboard and case connections properly. Again, did you use the correct amount of standoffs and put them in the correct places?

I did use the standoffs, and I don't think I missed any. I will check later tonight to make sure I didn't miss any of them.
