Power a 3 Pin fan with a USB Cable?

I've got an old USB to USB cable that I cut one end of and stripped the plastic off the end. Well, I've got a 3 pin fan from an old dell that a wire got caught in the fan and snapped. So the Red and Black wires work, but the yellow is broke so I will have to use some heatshrink tubing on it.

So my question is,

Is the Yellow cable power? or is it ground? I would really like to make a laptop cooler out of some case fans, powered by USB.

If you can understand what I'm trying to explain, good job.

EDIT: just remembered black is ground. Can I get away without having a yellow wire?

The yellow wire is not important. It is used on the motherboard to control speed. I have a couple fans I took the yellow wire off to hook the fan up to molex connectors using only red and black.

So yes you can use the USB connector.
Good luck.
