today i was in my network places, i have 2 comps here at home which make a wireless network and i noticed someone else's sharded docs, c drive, my pics, etc, none are accesible to be and i was wondering what i should do?

is there some way that i can put an encryption on the router, only b/c one comp is hooked up to it and the other is wireless

i know i can encrypt the wireless comp but what about the other?

someone's name was on one of the folders so i searched the white pages and i found him, and i did a mapquest search, looks like the guy directly behind my house, its around 200 feet from my house to his so should i even be worried?

ok that guy is connecting wireless....what kind of router? basically, there is a couple simple solutions to this.....go into router config (depending on what type of router) and enable MAC address filtering ... make note of the MAC addys of your cpus that are supposed to be connected........your router should have an option that should display the connected MAC addresses and the computers names. Also, once you configure that, disable the SSID broadcast and change the name of the SSID, you will be fine. If you want ot go further, turn on WEP encryption

Chances are, they may not be aware of the fact that they are doing this to you. Many cards will autmoatically connect to any available connection! Your first step should be to setup MAC filtering on the router...then maybe a firewall, and DEFINATELY enter a WEP key!

i have the netgear MR814V2 and my card is a netgear MA521

and ill do that, thx

but will this slow down my internet at all?, just wondering

well i did the mac address filtering, that worked, but the WEP wont
i can make the encrytion code, connect to the router with it, but no internet...

ok, youve enabled MAC filtering, thats good. Disable the broadcast of your SSID and change the SSID, you should be ok from there.....none of this will slow your connection down. Also, change the password to access the configuration of your router.
