Possible for Sound card to Kill Microphones?

Well I bought a new mic a couple days ago and it worked on the first day no doubt. I tired to use it today and what do you know? It doesn't work alike All the other mics I have tried. I am suing an Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Sound card. ( The Fat Blue one). What could be the matter?

You certain it worked? For the most part, microphones don't just stop working - they're simple mechanical electronic bits of kit, and I very much doubt a sound card could do anything to damage it.

All your other mics are working? What's the new mic called?

If you weren't so certain it had worked already, I'd have said it was something as simple as it requiring phantom power.

Worth returning it anyway, and getting a replacement.
