hi i need a laptop as we only hav 1 computer, so i need it for internet, college work, music films , some gaming etc. so i found this :
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0238788488.1163971646@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgeaddjgkgfhejcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=1&sm=0&tm=0&sku=073033&category_oid=-27405

do u think this would be ok for that kinda stuff? - the games i will b playing are things like dawn of war, battlefield 1942 etc. iv checked the specs out and it looks like it shud run them fine but i just want to be sure.

also what would be the maximum amount of RAM, HDD and processor i could upgrade this to in the future?
and would i be able to buy a graphics card for it sometime?

thanks, i await your reply

lmao, battlefield 2 would not even entertain this laptop, to run that kind of game on minimal setting on any laptop will require a laptop over douple the speed and power of this one u have listed

Celeron Processors can not play the newer games. I have a Celeron and it barely play the original Unreal Tournament, which is almost 8 years old. Also you can not add a graphics card to a notebook. If you insist on playing games with a notebook you will need to spend more, maybe double.

Dell, and this place both make some good notebooks for games

Hope this helps.

Not realy a great laptop imo.

I would continue searching around for a better one.

No way this thing would play any games... My rather low-end laptop has better specs than that, and it can barely play anything! If you want to play games on your laptop, you'll about have to double your budget(if it's limited to the price of that laptop) and start looking for laptops with dedicated video cards.

you can upgrade the cpu it just takes more work than with the hdd and memory you literally have to tear the laptop apart.

I beleive more and more laptop's are becoming easier to upgrade. Many earlier ones had the processor directly soldered to the board. However, I know for a fact that my Averatec actually has a socket 754 on it.

Yeah i was watching a clip on Toms Hardware and he was upgrading a laptop.

I cant remember the name of the laptop but he upgraded the ram to 2Gb and put in a bigger hard drive...They just pull out and you can slide the new one in.

There was 2 seperate bays underneath the laptop and you just remove the screw and there was the ram and the other had the hdd.

I think this laptop is good for playing old games such as command and conquer generals and GTA vice city.
You will able to play these old games on low/medium setting

But for new games, you need much much better laptop

ok, thanks all, i personally agree with maroon1 , as this laptop WILL play games that are not too old and not too new, eg battlefield 1942 would work fine on it.

I dont know much bout laptops, but i would definately make sure you get a graphics card already installed. Im prety sure My laptop has the speed and HD to play the new games, but i was an ass and didnt get a graphics card, so i am restricted in that area significantly. Wouldnt it be so nice if there was a graphics card you could just throw into the cardbus slot. That would be pretty slick.
