Please help with my Creative surround sound

I recently bought a desktop, and used my old surround sound speakers with a console unit, Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700. It seems that sound only plays from the front left, and front right speakers independently, but not the center speaker. When testing it says "left" from the left speaker, "center" from both left and right and "right" from the right speaker (I have no rear speakers). I think I am just getting 2-channel sound, as when I go to the "advanced" tab for my speakers after clicking on the sound icon in Windows 7, it says "2-channel, 16-bit, 48000HZ, DVD quality". Is there any way I can get all speakers playing independently?

Is your sound card set up for correct digital out put as stated by your specs or are you running analogue out put?
Does your speakers have digital input or is it just analogue?
