please help with directx update/install...

Hi. I have a WINXP Professional OS with sp2. It has directx 9.0b installed. I've been trying for over a week to install a new directx 9.0c, but it is impossible... I even reinstalled windows and started over... but no luck... The problem is i don't see direct x in control panel, nor do i have it installed in programs or anywhere else... I just see it when i type "dxdiag" in START-RUN... then directx information pops out...But other than that nothing... I tryed to install never version, but it's worthless... After i go to setup.exe installation lasts for about 5 seconds and it says it has been succesfully installed, but it hasn't...Please advise me what to do...I didn't install any version of directx exept the one that came with windows...But i say it again i don't see directx icon in control panel, i just see it's options whem i write dxdiag in run box.... Please help me with this cause my bro can't play games and some of the games are running slow and directx is the cause... I have downloaded directx x from internet but i can't install it... please help...thanks...
 
WHat graphics do you have? integrated, newer, etc? and chrisalviola, how did he install windows in the first place if it is corrupted?
 
i have the same luck with the computer i installed with the pirated copy of XP, so my suggetion dont install any pirated copy of OS. it can have unknown results.
