I just bought a this new heatsink and need to install it on my motherboard. However, the motherboard does not have any holes around the CPU for mounting the heatsink. The stock heatsink had some specific mounting system, and I don't know how to attach an aftermarket one. All it has is some black thing like a border around the CPU that I can't seem to take off. Please help.

Have you read the instructions for the correct socket? It should have come with some instructions on how to install it on the sockets it supports.

i read all of the instructions, and there is no specific instructions for my socket, and also i dont see any way i can attach the heatsink with the supplies they provided.

That's funny, there's supposed to be a clip for the socket939 according to thermaltake's website. I'll check the web and see if I find something...

EDIT:

While the Big Typhoon comes with a copious amount of different brackets, you only need 1 bracket and 2 screws to connect to a Socket 939 motherboard, as they have their own back plates

I think what it is, is you need to unscrew the litle tree notch thing (looking at my socket 939 I see the screws), and use one of the brackets to screw that in. Instruction Booklet should tell you wich bracket it is.

a big typhoon on my exact mobo. the problem is, on mine, there is a black border type thing around the CPU socket that is supposed to hold the heatsink or something, but i cant remember if it came with the mobo or if i had to install it. however i tried to remove said black thing, but there seems to be no way other than prying it off by force.

Isn't there two screws that hold in the thingy with tree notches. Most stock units just clip on to those nocthes, but for the Typhoon, I think you need to unscrew them, and use a clip that came with the typhoon and screw that in instaid. Is there any kind of screws on yours?

ok, i took off my mobo and i see how they stick out in the back. i think i can solve this problem if only i know how to take these tree notches off.
