ok, just downloaded the PS elements 5 trial, and it seems really awesome. Im having a little trouble and cant find anything anywhere else. What i am trying to do is take parts of 2 separate pictures and put them togther. I have both pictures opened and the part i want on a separate layer, but how do i add one layer to another picture?

What im trying to do now as my first trial and experiment with photoshop is take a picture of chuck norris and a picture of me and switch the faces, so it looks like i am totally ripped and he is rocking out in my apt.

I think this an easy ?, and any help appreciated. Thanks.

You have to cut his face out, and mask it onto the other layer.

Or, you could place the chuck norris on top of you, erase the face (so that it shows yours) and blend it up

thanks man that looks awesome. It is totally dedicated to photoshop isnt it. Well, check out my first about 20 min of photoshop. It's really lame, but i was just trying to get the feel for it. I think that website will help a lot. Thanks.

There is a nice plugin for photoshop (I don't know if also for PS Elements). It is called Akvis Chameleon. It is not cheap (70 Bucks) but it's pretty cool. You can probably download a trial.
http://akvis.com/en/chameleon/index.php

You can also check out their other products.
Of course, plugins can be handy, but they also "let you out the easy way" - and you end up not learning much photoshop if the plugins always do all the work for you. It's kind of like - learn to drive a stick and you can always drive an automatic.

Here is how I would do it.... Open both pics in PS, use the selection tool and select chucks head, copy, then select the image of you, paste as new layer. Move the head into position. Do a save as of that image, then undo the paste as new layer (so you can use this Image to select your head). Now use the selection tool to do the same thing with your head.
