PC to TV

I am curious what exactly does one need to do this? I basically wanna play my movies/anime to my TV so I can lay in my nice cozy water bed vs laying back in my chair.

I have a older TV which only has a S-Video..so I hooked to my VCR to get my stereo system put in.

What adapters would I need and is it possible for me? I tried some searches but terms were to small for the search to find.

If I had to guess all I need is a long S-Video cable then play the movie and go to graphics and switch to "dual monitor" am I in the realm of correct?

Yeah, it kinda depends on your graphics card as to what adapter you (might) need.

I think a majority of them have an S-Video out. Also keep in mind that the audio will still come out of your soundcard so if you wanted the full cinematic effect ;), you'd need to route that to your TV or stereo.

Also, a standard TV has horribly low resolution so browsing your video library from your TV would be almost impossible.

Yeah, standard TV resolution is 640x480 I think. MUCH lower than the bottom line 1024x768 for computer monitors. The videos shouldn't look too bad though, just the computer interface.

So routing it through the VCR's S-Video which has the stereo hooked in wouldn't transfer the sound to the TV speakers or the stereo?

If not would it still come from the TV speakers....I am assuming when you do this everything on monitor 1 would be on the TV screen correct? If so the library is not a issue then.

The round S-Video cable only sends pictures, the red and white RCA is needed for sound.

Best setup I imagine would be S-Video to TV, Audio straight to stereo.

What I do when I want to watch Movies etc is go Extended Desktop, choose the movie etc on the computer screen and then drag it to the TV. If you then double click to maximise9 (in VLC for eg) it will then fill the TV screen.

Hope that helps, Doug.

i have a sony tv with a video plug on the back. hook up the video cable then mode 5 on the tv. f5+fn on the laptop and its done. video is excellent. no problems here. sound ok too. get a wireless keyboard and mouse. then ya can lounge all over the house.of course this was for my Toshiba laptop.

Well my issue is my TV is older so doesn't have the same options so I gotta jump through some hoops to get it working.

I think I figured out everything I need....I just need to buy and test it. I have 1 cable but I need to get a 3.5mm RCA cable for the audio.

Gonna head to radioshack this morning and buy a cheap one make sure it works before I buy the 15 foot one ^-^

Yeah I found a better solution that worked perfectly.

I have a RF modulator from a old lady...she gave me a bunch of old electronics she was going to throw away.

Found it while getting a S-Video cable. What are the odds it would work out like that.

Saves me from having to buy 15 feet to reach my TV....also it allowed me to go through my VCR so I get stereo volume + TV volume too :D

Gotta say this so much warmer...considering its 17 below out this water bed is feeling pretty good right now.
