PC sound system + standalone in one

My computer is noisy so I was thinking I would like a sound system that would work whether my PC was on or off -- possibly a home theater type system.

Budget: ~$300

Build:
I have an Audigy sound card and am running Windows XP home.
I'm not sure what else in my build might be relevant: core 2 ~2401 Mhz, 2 GB ram, 8800gtx video, 250GB free harddrive space, lite-on 20a1h drive, Viewsonic VG2230wm monitor. Also, SoundMax onboard.

Intended use:
The sound system should be suited for general computer use: music, games, movies, etc. Also, I would like to be able to use headphones even when the PC and sound system are connected (I've seen the suggestion that a PC can be connected through a headphone jack).

Since the system is meant to be used even when the PC is off, I would like it to be able to handle as many of the following inputs as possible: DVD of various kinds (mainly interested in DVD formats for audio playback, especially those I can burn myself), USB (flash drive), CD of various kinds (especially CD's I can burn myself), ipod (low priority since I don't currently have an ipod). Of course, I would need some means of connecting my Audigy card's digital output to the system (would any aux input on a home theater system work?).

Other priority features:
Remote control, sleep mode (it turns off after playing for a set amount of time), programmable, possibly memory.

For reference, here is a system that might be marginally acceptable, but I would hope I could do better:
Philips MCM275 Flat Wall-Mountable Shelf System

However, I'm not really sure it would work with my particular build.

Thanks. Hope to hear from you.
