PC Sound Improvement

I play CD's on my PC,but the sound is not very good. I want to improve the sound,so it sounds more like a stereo. What do I need to buy for my PC to get better sound?

well depends on your budget. Right now the x-fi line of soundcards are the best, they range from like 70 to about 350, depending on model. However, unless you have really nice speakers, expensive soundcards won't do much.

cd's are uncompressed 44.1khz PCM

just use an optical out, and an external processor
