PC Manufacturers

Hi,

Does anyone know if computer manufacturers have records of who have purchased PC's from them, such as Dell?

I'm just wondering as I want to buy one 2nd hand from eBay and wanted to know if its possible to check who originally purchased a PC in case its stolen or has some dodgey story to it.

Thanks

I bet that would be nigh impossible to track down but I honestly don't know. If you wipe it and reinstall your own OS you shouldn't have any trouble in terms of piracy or anything like that. You might get in trouble for having stolen property but there's not a way anyone would really find out. Not saying that's a good thing, but just a point worth noting.

Depends. With manufacturer rebates, they should. I'm wondering if the manufacturer keeps a record on which store or distributor they sold to and maybe you can then check on that end. Good luck.

I bet they have something to that extent, but I doubt they would give that information out for free.

That's a good point to consider and how the buyer can be protected in this kind of situation. Maybe EBay have rules concerning this,
