Hey,

Sometimes while playing games my pc will totally lock up.. the screen will just freeze and any audio which is playing at the time will go into a loop.

I have formatted my HDD's and done a fresh install of vista and all my (Up to date) drivers.

I can't think of anything else it could be..

My specs:

CPU: Q6600 (stock)
GPU: 9800GX2 (stock)
RAM: 4gb Corsair XMS2 800MHz (stock)
MOBO: Asus P5N-T Deluxe
PSU: Antec Quattro 1000 Watts

Temps:

This problem doesn't discriminate between games, It can happen while I'm playing Bf2, CoD4, MoH etc etc..

If there's any other information you need please ask me :)

Thanks heaps for any help and or advice!

Your GPU is running very hot! especialy if that 73c is idle...i suggest replacing the cooler

whast the airflow like in your case?

Hmm Yeah that is idle :( I don't have a cooler on it. Running the fans at stock speed.

I have the Gigabyte GA 3D Mars S case which comes with 5 fans and the case is sitting in my desks PC dock but it has room either side for air to circulate.

i would re-apply the thermal paste on it with some MX-2.

i think the only aftermarket cooler available for the GX2 is a Waterblock according to google

Hmm so you think the freezing could be due to overheating? If so I'd rather send the card back than pay money for something I shouldn't need.

i think it could be yes,but i would wait for more members opinions before doing anything.

i would also like to know what that other tempreture is showing 72c

What are your fan speeds at on that GX2? they might only be running at a slow speed and no providing enough cooling.

Rivatuner should allow you to change the fan speed or the software you got with the card.

Try to make a custom fan profile on Rivatuner. My card was running at 77C max. I made a profile so the fan idles at 45%, and as it hits 75C it goes to 100%. My card doesn't peak above 69C. It's definitely easier than taking apart the card, just the way the card is designed.

I found this useful on how to create a custom fan profile.

run something gpu intensive, then check temperatures

I just ran ATI tool artifact scan for 10 minutes and my temps stopped at 85 and 79c

ust now while playing BF2 online my screen went black and then the light started to blink as if in sleep mode but I couldn't revive it so I had to restart. Then once I had it up and running it happend again while using firefox.. The screen just loses the signal I think it may be the graphic card? :(

Ok I decided to just lose the damn GX2 and I got a HD4870 instead, It idles around the 55-60c mark instead of 74c :)

Thanks for the help :)
