Im getting the message

Windows Failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem.
1. Insert Installation disc and restart
2. Choose language
3. click repair computer

But after i insert my upgrade disc or vista disc, my computer doesnt run/read them. So nothing is happening ,its like my cd drive isnt plugged in a. Is there anyway of restarting my whole computer. I do not care about the information on it. I just want it to work !

Thanks

thanks

Go into the bios and make sure the first boot device is the dvd drom drive. Then do a repair install of the operating system.

Are you able to inspect the innards of the computer tower? It would be most helpful if we knew what the controllers of the CD drive would be, i.e. PATA or SATA; as it is possible that the devices do not have their proper "slave" or "master" settings. If the controllers are SATA, then simply go into the BIOS, and change the boot config.

uhmm i did set it to SATA but what i did do was take out the HDD and put in an IDE ONE and it worked fine. so im guessing the HDD crashed "/

Ya i did that and still it didnt read.

Im going to frys to but another 500 gb SATA drive

I bought a new HDD and now its saying Boot mgr is missing push CTRL ALT DLT

WTF . how do i restart my bios to default settings ?

i rearranged all the SATA cables and made sure they were in their correct positions. and went through the bios and rearranged the boot order from

CD/DVD
HDD
REMOVABLE
and for a short sec i got a Push any key to boot from device then displayed the
PUSH CTRL ALT Del to restart.

Iono whats goings on :(

and i did take out the small battery on the mobo to reset settings but nothing

You did...reinstall windows on the new drive...right?

Though I'm a little confused as to what exactly you're trying to do and what configuration and such. And why you didn't do what johnb35 said. (Admittedly, I would have fixboot/fixmbr and a few other utilities before going for a repair install, but whatever).

Ya i did make the DVD rom the 1st to boot then the HDD. But nothing. When i installed the new HDD it gave me the error message.

Boot mgr is missing push CTRL ALT DLT

Im trying to reset the BIOS to factory default bc it tended to work then until i messed with the boot sequence. But i put them back to the way they started out and when i restarted my pc. it keeps giving me the same message, not even reading what ever is in the CD/DVD drive

So you're telling me its not POSTing at all? Immediatly goes to ctrl-alt-del without the hardware check and the ability to enter the BIOS?

If it is POSTing, then your mobo BIOS is fine (and you don't need to be messing with it much), and we can move onto the next (real) problem, your windows master boot record.

Boot from your Windows CD or DVD disk, choose the Recovery Console and repair your BOOT SECTOR by using the following commands:

fixmbr C:

And then:

fixboot C:

NOTE: "C:" is the drive letter on which you are repairing your BOOT SECTOR on the hard disk drive!

Cheers everyone and to my dear princess!

Ooh no it can go into bios but if I don't go in it'll give me that error message. Ill try the method s.t.a.r.s gave me when I get back home from work

i returned my HDD drive and bought a ASUS CD Drive and that tended to work out, i did the repairs and updated bios . '
