Optical and 3xJack input in 5.1 System

Hey People

I have the following problem:
I have got 1 PC, 1 TFT Screen, 1 old 5.1 system (no optical input) and I wanna buy an Xbox 360. As i've already read, Xbox 360 has only optical 5.1 sound. I need 5.1 sound for both PC and Xbox 360 without plugging all the time.

Graphics are OK: I can buy a VGA Cable for Xbox, so the Xbox->TFT Screen connection problem is solved (by the way, will this be good quality?)

I have made my thoughts about the sound but I'm not sure wether these solves work:

-Solve 1:
The optical sound output is no problem, I can change optical to 3xjack with a little converter.
I use 3 jack splitter

to plug all 6 jack into the 5.1 System. I'm not sure if this works, does it? Will the quality be good?

-Solve 2:
I buy a sound card and lead my optical sound from the Xbox 360 into the Computer. It will be converted in the Computer and goes out with the computers sound (disadvantage: PC must be running).
Does this work?

Or has anybody got better ideas? Please don't recomment me expensive 5.1 sound switches.

Yours
Kenji

Bump.

Duh none knows anything, i asked a lot of forums. Does anyone know a sound forum or anything like that?

I don't think the 1st solution would work as optical is digital and the 3.5mm jacks are analogue, thus, you can't really convert from one to the other without a computer in the middle.

The second solution sounds plausible, just make sure the computer has optical in, not just out.

It should work, but I've never tried to do it before so you'll have to figure it out from here. Oh and by the way, that card is notorious for sucking =P.
