On board sound problems.

I have an Intel DX58SO motherboard and an Asus 4870 X2. After installing all the drives for everything. I can't get audio to work from my onboard sound. No matter what I try, I tried on xp profession and vista ultimate. On Vista it said that my sound was working and then it said it was running threw hdmi, which is on the video card. I don't want that sound to work. I want my onboard sound to work. I tried disabling the hdmi, all that did was tell me that I had no audio device installed. I would very much appreciate some help please. I went into the bios and I have audio enabled so Please any help would be really appreciated!

Well after reading on various websites I came to the conclusion that the onboard audio that came with my motherboard is just dead. So instead of doing an RMA, I just found an old sound card, and it worked. I have sound and everything now. Droped my windows vista score down alot but it works. :D

did you make sure to install the drivers for the onboard audio and are there any error in the device manager?
